Our Saturday night is, traditionally, an evening of compelling talk about the most urgent issues confronting society today.
We are pleased to announce that, in 2017, the internationally acclaimed writer, Kenan Malik, will share the stage with one of Australia’s most experienced journalists, Tony Walker, to talk about How the World Changed.
30 years ago, the image of huge and violent mobs holding aloft burning copies of a book – Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses – changed everything.
What that meant, and why we are still feeling the impact, is the topic of Malik’s powerful book, From Fatwa to Jihad. Updated in the wake of the attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris, this gripping account gives us essential insight in to issues like free speech, and into where we’re at today.
