41. An Edible Way to Heal Country

  • The Capital 50 View Street Bendigo, VIC, 3550 Australia (map)

There is a belief that it will take fifty years to heal country from the damage done by colonisation.

Fortunately for us we have some wonderful people leading the way; Bruce Pascoe (Imperial Harvest and Dark Emu) and Lyn Harwood own and run Black Duck Foods, a First Nations led agricultural business run on Yumburra Farm, they have also recently co-authored Black Duck A Year at Yumbarra.

Rodney Carter is CEO of Dja Dja Wurrng Corporation (DJAARA). His essay ‘Djaara: The essential ingredient’ features in Meanjin 83.2 Winter 2024. Djaara are currently embarking on a kangaroo grass project and are building what will be the largest yabby farm in the southern hemisphere.

Mindy Woods (Karkalla at Home, Sept 2024) is a proud Bundjalung woman and chef who creates memorable meals and on-Country experiences for her guests.

Guided by Neane Carter, a proud Djaara, Yorta Yorta, Wamba Wamba, Wergaia, Wotjobaluk woman the group will discuss the challenges, opportunities and possible solutions for healing country.
