42. Searching for the Sitter

  • Bendigo Art Gallery 42 View Street Bendigo, VIC, 3550 Australia (map)

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this session has been cancelled. Tickets holders are being contacted and full refunds provided.

In her second novel, The Sitter, Angela O’Keeffe pulls at the boundaries of artist and muse, against a dramatic backdrop of social and cultural change in one of the world’s great cities: Paris, 2020. A writer is confined to her hotel room during the early days of the pandemic, struggling to finish a novel about Hortense Cezanne, wife and sometime muse of the famous painter.

Jacqueline Millner, Professor of Visual Arts at La Trobe University, is an art theorist specialising in contemporary art and its intersections with social, political and cultural change. She is also a frequent visitor to Paris for research and pleasure.

In this conversation, Angela and Jacqueline will consider obscured histories of women, the nature of research, and the timeless lure of Paris.
